SUPER FURRY ANIMALS FRONTMAN TO PLAY SYDNEY AND MELBOURNE SHOWS
We are pleased to announce that Super Furry Animals frontman Gruff Rhys will visit Australia in May to perform two special solo shows in Sydney and Melbourne, in support of his new album Hotel Shampoo (out now on Popfrenzy).
Stepping on from Super Furry Animals – the highly successful Welsh psych-pop outfit who became darlings of the ‘90s Brit indie scene – Gruff has been become a formidable solo artist and collaborator over the past few years, producing his own solo work, plus contributing to albums from Gorillaz, Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse, Simian Mobile Disco and The Bottle Top Band, as well as fronting the Mercury nominated band, Neon Neon, with Boom Bip.
Hotel Shampoo is his third solo album, and it’s a delectable romp of energetic pop charm that’s a little off-kilter, a little psychedelic, a little retro, a little futuristic and never dull. Continually alluring with sumptuous, booty wiggling arrangements and his trademark infectious melodies, it’s a gleeful 13-track trip stuffed with Gruff’s cliché-free lyrics and sense of ease.
From cinematic pop on Shark Ridden Waters (produced by Andy Votel) to awesome mariachi tinged first single Sensations In The Dark, Gruff shows off plenty of (un)seriously great tunes.
This will be Gruff’s first visit to Australia since Super Furry Animals toured in 2003.
