During the six-year break between the release of 2009’s GET COLOUR and DEATH MAGIC, HEALTH did not keep quiet, keeping busy working on alternative projects with outsider collaborators. Dabbling within the digital gaming world in 2012, HEALTH created the score for Max Payne 3 and produced the original track, “TEARS”. They were also responsible for the musical accompaniment to a multimedia New York fashion week event featuring the industry’s elite.
This exposure and experimentation with outsiders from the music world are apparent in DEATH MAGIC. “It’s bigger than anything we’ve done before but still uniquely our sound,” says HEALTH’s John Famiglietti. “We wanted to make an album that felt modern and intense and heavy,” adds Jake Duzsik. DEATH MAGIC certainly begs of the attention of stadium sized audiences over than dingy dives like previous albums have suggested, it appeals to greater audiences with more inclusive, poppier tracks polished with super slick production.
In no way would the change of tone and brief hiatus hinder live performances. The seasoned stage dwellers are sure to belt out tracks from DEATH MAGIC and old favourites with inevitable abundance of hair flailing and masses of hypnotic, all embracing energy. There is a reason HEALTH are so hyped internationally for their live performances. These shows are certainly not to be missed!
