Popfrenzy Presents...
Soon on Popfrenzy Records
VEGA INTL. Night School

Neon Indian News

We are delighted to be bringing out Alan Palomo aka Neon Indian for his fourth visit to Australia following the release of the mega VEGA INTL. Night School (out October 16th)

VEGA INTL. Night School relies on slicker production while sticking to Palermo’s ability to create twangy beats nodding unmistakably to 80’s 8-bit laden dancefloors. The new release is reminiscent of Daft Punk’s early work with reliance on progressing, heavy basslines and synth funk melodies (developed by Palomo’s side project, VEGA). It is insanely listenable and will surely stir interest with renewed followers and fresh listeners alike on record and played live.

The teachings of Palomo’s Night School will be included in the lineup for Meredith Festival in December with headline gigs over the East Coast .

Jaakko Eino Kalevi (Popfrenzy Presents) News

Jaakko Eino Kalevi Debut Australian Tour in October

We're delighted to be bringing over Jaakko Eino Kalevi to Australia in October.

Already something of a cult figure in Helsinki, where he lives and works part-time as a tram driver, Jaakko’s (pronounced “Yah-koh”) debut release for the label is an alluring introduction to a charismatic artist whose softly psychedelic pop blends funk and folk in an intriguing and highly satisfying manner. A self-taught multi-instrumentalist who is happiest behind the drums, Jaakko plays, sings and produces all his own material. Having released a steady stream of diverse music on local labels for several years, Jaakko has long been considered one of Finland’s most promising young artists and with his signing to Weird World becomes the first ever Nordic artist to work with Domino or its subsidiaries in the label’s 20-year history.

Playing in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane, these shows are not to be missed!

Major Leagues News

Major Leagues signs to Popfrenzy and releases new single 'Someone Sometime'

Brisbane poppers, Major Leagues are joining the Popfrenzy clan ahead of their new single 'Someone Sometime' and an upcoming tour this weekend. Their music flits between bobby sounds of endless summers and carefree teenage frivolity, with more somber dejected heartbreak seamlessly. Best for fans of throwback hazy sounds created by the likes of Pavement, Yuck and Best Coast.

With lo-fi ideals finished with a quick buff and polish, Major Leagues' sound is a rendered old photograph rather than an Instagram photo with a hasty filter wacked on - delightfully nostalgic rather than a unrefined imitation of a widely recreated genre.

We fell in love with these rascals after they released their last EP, Weird Summer in 2013. Worth the wait follows the sophmore EP, Someone Somewhere created with assistance from Unknown Mortal Orchestra's Jacob Portrait and Bored Nothing's Miro Mackie.

Alyx Dennison News

Alyx Dennison S/T out now!!

Out now is the debut album from Alyx Dennison.

The Melbourne singer cut her teeth (and gained a ridiculously high level of praise) with kyü. Branching out on her own Alyx Dennison is an evocative cluster of avant-garde sounds. Get it now from our online store, Bandcamp or iTunes!

"Marked by regrets that tend to the cessation of love's embrace and images of otherworldly journeys, Alyx Dennison's self-titled album eschews the immediacy of hooks for the slow embrace of texture and a through-the-looking-glass worldview that stretches to the epic on the nine-minute closing track Desiring Machine. The steady percussion of I Don't Love You Anymore is the foundation for darting vocals, but the eruptions here – with the exception of the striking Boat – are tender and distilled." Surf City News

Surf City return with a new album!

New Zealand psychgazers Surf City return with an album of sticky summer jams and fuzzy swirls and out and out dream pop blasts.

Harnessing the explorations of 2013's We Knew It Was Not Going To Be Like This into more focused packages, the group still delivers reverb-soaked joy at every turn. Adding in a return to their earlier efforts in crafting the perfect jittery motorik pop song, Jekyll Island finds the band at the height of their powers.
